After working with my students throughout high school I like to offer the opportunity for them to show their work in a more personal way by preparing a full length recital to be performed the summer after they graduate. The recital consists of 8-12 songs that showcase their favorites over the years and some of the latest and best songs they’ve worked on. This recital is just for friends and family to come and show their love and support. Sometimes there is a full house, sometimes there are only a few people in the audience. It is more about the preparation and the experience and joy of performing a full recital. Many of these recitals are in the Carnegie room at the St. Charles Public Library, but other venues have included Coroco, Pollyanna, St. Charles Wine Exchange and Playhouse 38 in Geneva.

Many students and families choose to coordinate these shows with their graduation party. Either the same weekend, or sometimes the event itself becomes a graduation celebration. We have so much fun being creative!

I help the student and family coordinate choosing a date and time, a venue, and accompanist, the music, making a program, promoting, rehearsing and finally, performing the final show. This process usually starts at the beginning of the school year and is a lot of work, which is why it is an extra fee. If you do not choose the Senior Lessons with Recital option but choose later to do a recital, you can pay the fee retroactively. There is also a fee for most venues and for all accompanists, due at the time of the event.
